Overview
My friend Angelo and I were approached by a restaurant with a completely unique concept: a kaiten belt sushi-style restaurant, but for Italian food! The idea sparked instantly, and we thought, why not use innovative technology to bring the food to life? We envisioned the restaurant's dishes moving through Dubai, much like a kaiten belt, while showcasing the beauty of the city.
Challenges & Approach
We worked with the chef to select their best small dishes and used the Polycam app to scan the food. These scans were imported into Blender for cleanup and to make them look realistic. I then animated the dishes moving along a kaiten belt through Dubai, combining both ground and aerial footage. The 3D tracking and compositing were tricky, but after some careful work, we were able to make it look incredibly realistic.
The result
The video had an impressive impact, boosting sales by 37%, increasing the restaurant’s following by 3,000, and reaching 25,000 viewers on social media.
